By Sean Collins The first Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Drogheda took place in 1964 at the suggestion of Joe Sheils of the Drogheda Brass Band. Since then, apart from cancellations due to heavy snow in 1979 and Covid in 2019 -2021, it has been a much-loved public event in the town’s calendar. The Lourdes Brass Band, Drogheda are honored to be invited to join the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the Westmeath town of Delvin. As ever the Delvin community are ahead of the rest of the country and leading in the National celebrations on Sunday 16th March. The band has recently invested in a new set of uniforms. These uniforms incorporate our new crest, which was designed by the band's Principle Trombone player Brian Murphy. In addition to new blue waistcoats the band has also purchased marching jackets. The jackets were first worn by the band at this year's St Patricks Day Parade in Drogheda, while the waist coats were debuted at the National Drogheda St Patrick's Day Parade. 3,025 likes · 14 talking about this. The St. Patrick’s Day parade 2025 starts at 12 noon on Monday 17th March. The parade showcases everything that makes Drogheda special and this years theme is Drogheda 2025 – The Parade of Champions, which will celebrate the town’s achievements in sport, culture and history.
